An update on the City of Palo Alto’s progress towards meeting its 33% renewable energy standard:
The city council recently approved a contract to buy 5% of its power from solar. That’s an impressive achievement, but one of the things that’s most exciting about it is the price: 7.7 cents per kWh. Nice! You can check out the contract here. The project is scheduled to begin deliveries Q1 2015.
- The City Council’s Finance Committee also recommended some changes to their feed-in tariff program. They raised the price to 16.5 cents/kWh and removed the minimum size requirement. These recommendations go to full Council, and if approved would be effective January 1, 2013.
Leadership happens at the local level.
